Prospective Interpreters:
Interpreting requires many skills.
While many people speak more than one language, simply speaking is only the beginning of interpretation.
Interpreting involves additional skills, including the following:
- A broad knowledge of both languages and cultures in which they are spoken.
- The ability to understand what others say in either language
- The ability to speak in either language and be readily understood
- A good memory for what is said.
- The ability to find equivalent means of expression in each language even when there are no equivalent words
- Knowledge of specialized vocabulary and concepts in areas such as medicine, law and business.

Some of those that apply with us come with a background in the medical field and even hold degrees as doctors or nurses in their native country. Those that do not have such background are required to study medical terminology in order to acquire a passing score on our exam.
We provide training materials and encourage our interpreter independent contractors to pursue further education to continually upgrade their skills. We serve as a resource to actively assist in their professional development process. In particular, we require adherence to the National Code of Ethics for Interpreters in Health Care and the National Standards of Practice for Interpreters in Health Care.
